Our Hospital and Doctors
VREC is the result of a unique collaborative effort between over 70 members of the South Texas veterinary community to develop a regional veterinary medical center of the highest standard. VREC is committed to providing 24-hour specialty and critical care. Whether in the form of urgent care provided by the veterinarians and nursing staff of the Emergency Pet Center-Stone Oak or through referral to one of our specialists, we always strive to provided your pet with the highest quality care during their time of need.
With the exception of the emergency practice, VREC accepts patients exclusively on a referral basis, allowing primary care veterinarians in San Antonio and South Texas to utilize the hospital's unique resources for continued care of patients with special needs.
The VREC board certified specialists have, in addition to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree, a minimum of a one year internship or equivalent training, and three to four years of intensive residency training. Finally, to become a board certified specialist, or Diplomate in a veterinary specialty college, the veterinarian must pass a rigorous series of examinations.
Board Certified or Board Qualified veterinarians staff the VREC specialty practices including Surgery, Radiology/Imaging, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and Oncology. Additionally, the 19,000 square-foot hospital includes a national veterinary diagnostic laboratory and a Physical Therapy/Rehabilitation Center.
VREC houses the Emergency Pet Center-Stone Oak, an affiliated practice of the Emergency Pet Clinic-Broadway. Veterinary emergency care requires a well trained, devoted and compassionate staff that strives for excellence in every case. Outstanding emergency veterinarians at VREC and the Emergency Pet Clinic-Broadway work closely with the exceptional team of board certified specialists at VREC to insure all patients receive the most comprehensive care available.
